The project involves one hour physical activity daily and contributes to a better diet and a better psychosocial environment in primary schools. The program is run on the students and school’s premises, and so does not take time away from teaching.
By autumn of 2019 11of Telemark’ s 18 municipalities will participate in «Liv og røre» with all their students from grade 1 to grade 10.
The ASK model and guidelines for food and meals in schools, and in the before and after school programs
The project is based on the research-based Active Smarter Kids model (ASK model), a model for physical activity in teaching as a method choice, adding variety in teaching.
In addition, it builds on the new professional guidelines from the Ministry of Health for food and meals in school and in the before and after-school programs. These guidelines address both the carrying out of the school meals as well as the nutritional quality of food and beverages.
Collaboration with the public dental services and the school health services on attitude change also constitutes part of the «Liv og røre» program.
A guide to «Liv og røre in Telemark» has been made.
Liv og røre in the whole county
«Liv og røre in Telemark» contributes to one hour daily of physical activity, a better diet and a better psychosocial environment in primary schools. The program is run on the students and school’s premises, and so does not take time away from teaching.
The broader goal of «Liv og røre» is to improve living conditions for children and youth in Telemark. The project is based on a pilot project in Kragerø municipality, where Telemark County Council has been a driving force, contributing both resources, expertise and free courses.
6 of the 18 municipalities in Telemark are already running the «Liv og røre» program, and six new municipalities will be starting up in 2019. Ownership to the program will be at every level, from the administrative and political management in the municipalities, to school management, teachers and students.
«Liv og røre in Telemark» is a collaboration between Telemark County and the University of Southeastern Norway, and receives additional funding from Sparebankstiftelsen Sparebanken Sør. It is based on a pilot project from Kragerø Municipality.
Telemark County Council contributes with resources, expertise and free courses. The University of Southeastern Norway contributes with research. In the research part of the project selected lower secondary schools will examined for change in the students' physical activity and diet, and in the psychosocial environment at the school.
In the fall of 2018 a pilot program will introduce «Liv og røre» in the nursery schools of Bamble municipality. The pilot builds on «Liv og røre in Telemark» and will among other factors emphasize pleasure in eating and movement in nursery schools.
